* It is a good security practice to regularly replace a communications key. I replace mine every year. (Another good practice is to use a 4096-bit communication key. GnuPG and similar programs will sometimes warn you not to do this, arguing that it's too slow. The only slow part is the key generation which is only done once. During routine use a 4096-bit key will be slightly slower than a smaller key but it's hardly noticeable. Many security professionals no longer trust 1024 bit keys. The practice of using larger keys is becoming widely accepted.)
